Basic Information:
Region Name: The Southwestern United States
Human Name: Adan Kay San Juan Ahumada
Age: 416 from foundings of San Juan de los Caballeros and Santa Fe de Nuevo México | 166 from Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
Apparent Age: Mid 20's
Faceclaim: Mink from DRAMAtical Murder/Re:Connect
Adan is a Spanish name meaning "from the red earth", a reference to his birthplace in the deserts of present-day Northern New Mexico, in the areas of Ohkay Owingeh and Santa Fe (previously San Juan de los Caballeros and Santa Fe de Nuevo México respectively).
In this area were the Tewa peoples, and Ohkay Owingeh remains the headquarters for the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council; Kay is the Tewa word for "bear".
His surnames follow Spanish naming tradition; San Juan is his first surname, translated to "Saint John", which is the saint Ohkey Owingeh was named after by the Spanish. Ahumada refers to Saint Teresa of Ávila, one of the patron saints of Spain.
San Juan de los Caballeros is present day Ohkay Owingeh, the first Spanish settlement in the American Southwest, while the province of Santa Fe de Nuevo México was founded shortly afterwards in the same year. Specifically, this was July 11, 1598. He had been part of Mexico until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on February 2, 1846.
Appearance:
Height: 6'0" (182.9)
Weight: ~210 lbs (95 kgs)
Hair: To his shoulders, dark brown in color
Eyes: Amber
Adan can be an intimidating man; standing at six feet with such sharp features tend to have that effect. He has sharp cheekbones and an aquiline nose as well as fairly dark skin, giving away his mestizo heritage. His gold-esque amber eyes are pretty striking as well, while his hair is dark brown and a bit long, usually left hanging loose. It's usually pretty straight, unless he had had it tied up to be out of his way shortly before. Thanks to his involvement in ranching and the like, he's pretty fit, though his involvement in wars such as the Mexican-American War have left him with a few scars.
Considering his past professions, it's likely not a surprise that he often looks the part of a cowboy, though he will somewhat begrudgingly dress more formally for business matters; he doesn't find suits to be all that comfortable, truth be told. He doesn't wear jewelry very much, besides a watch, but on the occasion he does it tends to be either of or inspired by the Pueblo culture.
Personality:
Despite what initial impressions may be, Adan is actually relaxed and creative, and tends to be friendly and welcoming to people. Despite this, it doesn't always show on his face; he usually just looks stern instead. He prefers to do things his own way at his own pace, and often gets exasperated when someone else tries to hurry things along. For the most part he's pretty agreeable, he just has an independent streak that doesn't necessarily like doing as told.
He's also pretty much an introvert and too much time dealing with people often leaves him complaining of being tired, though before he gets to that point he's a bit of a social butterfly. He isn't really the type to turn someone away if they want or need him for something, as that simply isn't the proper thing to do in his mind. He has some pretty clear ideas of what's right and what's wrong that he does his best to stick to, despite external forces.
Still, he isn't exactly adverse to change; there's a sense of wanderlust that prompts him to keep moving, though after a troublesome early life of being under Spain's harsh colonial rule, then fighting for independence with Mexico, then the Mexican-American War and the Civil War following, he has learned to enjoy the calm and quiet peacefulness brings. Of course, this doesn't stop him from being a trial to deal with when the mood strikes.
Which is perhaps for the best, considering the gossip he can be; he can be a little too curious for his own good sometimes, and eavesdropping or blurting out words he shouldn't have aren't entirely uncommon occurrences with him.
